Gator Fabric GF4.4 Non-Woven geotextile is ideal for drainage, filtration and will allow water flow of 510 liter per minute per 30 square centimeters in a paver or retaining wall application. It combines high durability along with excellent physical and hydraulic properties.
 

Gator Base is environmentally friendly, engineered to return water to the native soil due to the evacuation channels incorporated in the Gator Base. It will never leach chemicals or degrade in the native soil for over 100 years.

BETTER LOAD TRANSFER


One Gator Base panel engineered for paver and tile installation is equivalent to 15cm of crushed stone. The interlocking panels distribute all dynamic loads to a very wide area practically eliminating any pressure on the ground.

BETTER FREEZE AND THAW PROTECTION


One Gator Base panel acts like 45 cm of crushed stone as a thermal blanket. It is 3 times more effective than crushed stone as an insulator thus significantly reducing freeze and thaw cycles.
 

The creation of the Gator Tile System allows for the installation of porcelain tile directly on top of the Gator Base using the Gator Spacer to provide uniform spacing and unparalleled stability. The Gator Spacer has been designed to provide the right support, load transfer and a monolithic surface binding all units together.
 

The spacer can be cut into either a half- or a quarter-unit (using an utility knife) to be used along the edge of a building or the Gator Edge. Take note that the spacer bar needs to be kept to ensure exact spacing when laying the tile.

For A size tiles, use formula:

Options 1-2 GATOR TILE WITH DRAINAGE BASE SYSTEMS ON COMPACTED NATIVE SOIL


  • A minimum 2° top surface slope for proper water runoff

Options 3-4 GATOR TILE WITH DRAINAGE BASE SYSTEMS ON CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS


  • A minimum 2° top surface slope for proper water runoff
  • Gator Tile Sand at least 3 mm below the Porcelain tile surface.
  • Minimum depth of joint 17 mm.
  • Maximum joint width 6 mm.
  • Gator Base must exceed the actual tile installs by 15 cm on all sides.
  • OPTION 3: A 37 mm layer of compacted sand over a concrete slab minimum 10 cm thickness, offering 5 cm drainage holes every 3 m filled with 8mm clean stone and cover with a geotextile allowing water evacuation trough the concrete slab holes.
  • OPTION 4: A 37 mm layer of compacted sand over 5 cm of 0-20 mm compacted crushed stone covering a concrete slab minimum 10 cm thickness offering 5 cm drainage holes every 3 m filled with 8mm clean stone and cover with a geotextile allowing water evacuation trough the concrete slab holes.

* Gator Tile Sand is meant to be used on projects where water can freely drain through the Gator Base and into the native soils or any other appropriate aggregate or porous concrete material that lies underneath the Gator Base. All areas where the water is unable to evacuate, excessive moisture and humidity will buildup and negatively impact the performance of the Gator Tile Sand. It would be recommended to leave the joints empty under these circumstances to alleviate any moisture issues.

GATOR TILE INSTALLATION

 

WATER ACTIVATION (IMPORTANT NOTES)

  1. Work in manageable sections, ideally about 10 sq.m. at a time, depending on temperature.
  2. Do not allow Gator Tile Sand to wash out of joint.
  3. Never allow tiled surface to dry out during the water activation phase.
  4. Watering must be started at the lowest point of the tiled surface.
  5. Use a watering gun connected to a hose. Setting should be set to shower.
 
IMPORTANT:
The water used in steps 8a to 8c will activate a bonding action as well as condensing GATOR TILE SAND in the joints. It is important to water the GATOR TILE SAND a total of 3 times, as per steps 8a, 8b and 8c. Too little water will not properly activate the GATOR TILE SAND and will reduce the final performance. Moss Gator Tile Sand will not cause nor prevent moss, mold or mildew. Moss, mold and mildew are caused by certain on-site conditions including excess moisture, shade, absence of ventilation, inadequate cleaning or maintenance, presence of soil or other organic debris left on the product.
* Gator Tile Sand is meant to be used on projects where water can freely drain through the Gator Base and into the native soils or any other appropriate aggregate or porous concrete material that lies underneath the Gator Base.
